Welcome Luncheon Kicks Off Talent Dubuque: An Intern Engagement Program for Summer 2024

The Talent Dubuque: An Intern Engagement Program kicked off with a Welcome Luncheon, held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Diamond Jo Casino. With 105 attendees, representing 19 regional employers, the luncheon was an impressive start to the Summer series of events intended to maximize retention of interns and area college students by demonstrating first-hand how YOU can be great here in the Greater Dubuque region.

Interns and employers received a warm welcome from Rick Dickinson, President & CEO of Greater Dubuque Development. Rick emphasized the importance of the Talent Dubuque program in integrating interns into the community and workforce.

Mandi Dolson, Director of Workforce Recruitment & Retention, then provided an overview of the program, congratulating interns on securing positions with regional employers and highlighting the networking opportunities, professional development sessions, and community engagement activities available to them.

Carrie Koelker, Vice President of Community Engagement for Travel Dubuque, showcased Dubuque's unique blend of historical and modern attractions, such as the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, the street art campaign, Eagle Point Park, the Heritage Trail, and the Fenelon Place Elevator, among others.

An interactive Kahoot game, facilitated by Mandi Dolson and Nic Hockenberry, Director of Workforce Program, engaged interns in sharing their preferences for community factors and quality of life amenities.

In her closing remarks, Mandi encouraged interns to make the most of their summer in Dubuque and consider building their careers in the region, expressing hope for a memorable and impactful experience.

The event also highlighted upcoming Talent Dubuque activities, including a Young Professionals of Dubuque luncheon, a Riverfront Scavenger Hunt & Taste of Summer, a Dubuque Region Trivia & Millwork Night Market, and a closing luncheon on July 25. The welcome lunch set the stage for a summer filled with growth, discovery, and the potential for interns to find lasting opportunities in the Greater Dubuque region.
