Powers Passes Distinctively Dubuque Facilitator Torch

Since 2010, Jan Powers has facilitated our Distinctively Dubuque newcomer class, a program offered 4 times annually, bringing together those new to the community within the last 5 years. Jan has shared her knowledge and passion for the Greater Dubuque region with an estimated 1,575 newcomers over the course of the 57 classes she facilitated and organized. Thanks to Jan, and our partners at Northeast Iowa Community College, this dynamic and educational program has become a sought-out experience for newcomers and a go-to retention tool for area employers. It is with heartfelt gratitude and deep appreciation that Greater Dubuque Development recognizes Jan's service to the community as she retires from this role with the Distinctively Dubuque program, and from her consultant work with Powers of Communication, to travel and enjoy time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Greater Dubuque is also pleased to announce that Kristin Dietzel will assume the Distinctively Dubuque facilitator role with the upcoming August 2024 session. Kristin is a familiar face to many. She previously served as our Vice President of Workforce Solutions from March 2016 to January 2021, and is currently a community tour guide for Greater Dubuque Development. Kristin's long-time dedication to community development in the Greater Dubuque region and first-hand knowledge from growing up in and raising a family in the Dubuque area, along with her role as the CEO of Painted Sky Designs, makes her a perfect fit for Jan to pass the torch to.

Distinctively Dubuque is designed for individuals that have relocated or returned to the area in the last five years. Thanks to our generous sponsors DRA, City of Dubuque and Dubuque County, Distinctively Dubuque is free of charge to all participants. Each session consists of five consecutive Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8:30 p.m, hosted by high-energy presenters with in-depth knowledge of the Greater Dubuque region. Participants meet at different, unique venues and enjoy local cuisine each night. Registration is open for session of 2024 with start dates of August 21, 2024 and October 2, 2024. Register online or by contacting Mandi Dolson, Director of Workforce Recruitment & Retention at 563-557-9049 or mandid@greaterdubuque.org.
