Employment & Empowerment Expo Coming September 16

With support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Economic Mobility and Opportunity (EMO) Program

With the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Economic Mobility and Opportunity (EMO) program, International City & County Managers Association (ICMA) is offering a series of learning and training opportunities on boosting upward mobility for selected communities. Economic mobility describes the upward or downward movement in a person's economic or social status throughout their lifetime and throughout generations. Dubuque was one of 10 communities nationwide selected to be members of the Economic Mobility and Opportunity (EMO) Cohort.

Dubuque’s team is a partnership between the City of Dubuque and Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, focusing on economic mobility through employment and entrepreneurship. To this end, the team, which includes Anderson Sainci, Director of the Office of Shared Prosperity & Neighborhood Support at the City of Dubuque, Cori Burbach, Assistant City Manager for the City of Dubuque, and Nic Hockenberry, Director of Workforce Programming with Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, has been working in collaboration with other community partners to host the Employment & Empowerment Expo on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

With the emphasis on career track employment and outreach to unemployed and underemployed groups, the Employment & Empowerment Expo aims to provide support and coaching towards securing family-sustaining employment. Expo attendees will have the opportunity to explore skills training program enrollment, onsite resume building, interview skills coaching, and even have a professional head shot taken at no charge. The first 100 people through the door will also receive lunch from El Paisano, child care for children ages 4 and up, and a free Jule bus pass. All attendees can enter to win one of 3 $100 Visa gift cards; must be present to win.

The Expo will be held at the Multicultural Family Center at 1157 Central Ave. in downtown Dubuque from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 in partnership with International City & County Managers Association (ICMA), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, City of Dubuque, Greater Dubuque Development, Dubuque Works, Northeast Iowa Community College, Multicultural Family Center, and IowaWorks.
