YOU can be great here Community of Colleges Event Series Announced

In February 2023, Greater Dubuque Development hosted its inaugural YOU can be great here Community of Colleges event. The event attracted over 320 area college students alongside 40 representatives from some of the area’s largest employers for a Dubuque Fighting Saints Hockey game at the Dubuque Ice Arena. Organized by our Workforce Solutions team and sponsored by Greater Dubuque Development and the Dubuque Racing Association, the evening was free for students and employers to attend. Participants enjoyed pizza, a hockey game, and networking activities as part of the evening. The event was designed to connect our area college students to all that the Greater Dubuque region has to offer and provide firsthand experiences that demonstrate how YOU can be great here.

Following the success and positive response to that inaugural YOU can be great here Community of Colleges event in February, the Greater Dubuque Development team has planned and begun promoting a full suite of college student engagement events for the 2023-2024 academic year. These events include:

• Millwork Scavenger Hunt
  • Wednesday, September 20, 2023 | 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
    • Kicks off with dinner at 7 Hills Event Center at 1098 Jackson St. followed by a scavenger hunt designed in collaboration with Travel Dubuque, our area convention and visitor’s bureau. Students will discover unique treasures located throughout one of Dubuque’s most historic and up-and-coming districts. Prizes will be awarded.
• AccessDubuqueJobs.com Fall Career Fair
  • Wednesday, October 11, 2023 | 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Held at the historic Hotel Julien in downtown Dubuque, the AccessDubuqueJobs.com Fall Career Fair offers students the opportunity to meet face-to-face with area employers. Learn about an array of internship, part-time, and full-time opportunities from across all sectors to jump start your career in the Greater Dubuque region.
• College Movie Night
  • Wednesday, November 15, 2023 | 6:30 p.m. 
    • Enjoy a showing of the newest Marvel series film, The Marvels, at Phoenix Theaters located at 555 John F. Kennedy Rd. Free admission, pop, and popcorn for all that attend.
• College Hockey Night
  • Friday, February 2, 2024 | 5:00 p.m. Doors Open, 7:00 p.m. Game Time
    • Experience a Dubuque Fighting Saints hockey game at the ImOn Arena at 1800 Admiral Sheehy Dr. Socialize with fellow students and local employers before the game. The evening will include free pizza, games, and networking activities.
• AccessDubuqueJobs.com Spring Career Fair
  • Wednesday, February 21, 2024 | 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Join us again at the Hotel Julien in downtown Dubuque for another opportunity to place yourself and your talents on the radar of the area's top employers. Career services staff from area colleges will also participate in the Spring Career Fair to advise and coach students. Dress for success and stop by the Greater Dubuque Development booth to have a professional head shot taken at no charge.

All events are free and open to students currently enrolled in Greater Dubuque area colleges. Look for RSVP information coming soon from Greater Dubuque Development or your school; admission will be limited for select events.
