Future Leadership Team Provides Input on Next Gen Perceptions Survey, New Members Welcomed

On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, the Greater Dubuque Development Future Leadership Team met for its first regularly scheduled meeting of our 2023-2024 fiscal year. This 30-person advisory team, made up of up-and-coming leaders representing area employers, meets quarterly to discuss relevant economic development topics and how Greater Dubuque Development and the community can be most effective in addressing challenges and opportunities.

Members were welcomed by Rick Dickinson, President & CEO of Greater Dubuque Development and then offered introductions around the room to acquaint returning and incoming Future Leadership Team members with one another. The remainder of the meeting was facilitated by Mandi Dolson, Director of Workforce Recruitment & Retention, to engage the Future Leadership Team in shaping our forthcoming “Next Gen Perceptions Survey” that will launch this Fall.

Future Leadership Team members reviewed and discussed results gathered through a beta test of the survey with those who participated in our 2023 Talent Dubuque: An Internship Engagement Program. 64 of 178 interns participating in Talent Dubuque responded to the survey, with approximately 70% saying they ‘would consider living in the Greater Dubuque region in the future’. The Future Leadership Team then dove into a lively, 45-minute discussion regarding the phrasing and structure of the survey, effective outreach and distribution methods, and options for reporting out survey results to maximize public impact.

The “Next Gen Perceptions Survey” is anticipated to launch in early October 2023 and will aim to engage our area’s up-and-coming talent and current young professionals to compile insights and feedback on how the Greater Dubuque region is or isn’t meeting their expectations and needs regarding employment and quality of life issues. The survey, being developed and implemented by Greater Dubuque staff, will also deliver on a directive set forth by Greater Dubuque’s Board of Directors to guide our efforts. The “Next Gen Perceptions Survey” will inform local government and elected officials, area employers, community organizations, and private citizens as they work collectively to grow our population and create an equitable community of choice.

The 30 members of the Future Leadership Team serve staggered 24-month terms and provide feedback to the Greater Dubuque Development Board of Directors and management team on annual and long-range strategies to achieve the objectives of Greater Dubuque Development. One member of the Future Leadership Team, Nicole Breitbach of Black Hills Energy, serves as a voting member of the Greater Dubuque Development Board of Directors. The next scheduled quarterly meeting is Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. at Greater Dubuque Development’s office at 900 Jackson Street, Suite 109 in Dubuque’s Historic Millwork District.
